Green Beauty Swaps You'd Never Know Were Green!
Over the past few months, I have been accumulating all natural and organic beauty alternatives; some products have been disappointing, but some products have impressed me so much that I would recommend them to even my girls who use conventional products! I have rounded up a few of the items that perform so well, you wouldn't even know that they're healthy and nourishing for you. Scroll down to see products from: May Lindstrom, Jane Iredale, Eco Brow, Agent Nateur, RMS, Ritual De Fille & Captain Blankenship!
The products I have included in this post range from skincare to haircare to makeup. Although I am currently enjoying other items not seen above, the products I've chosen to include are truly "holy grail" items for all beauty lovers alike!
May Lindstrom was one of the first green beauty skin care brands I splurged on, and boy am I glad I did! The line is so luxurious it's even carried in Barneys, along with many natural beauty stores. I purchased my two masks online from Citrine Natural Beauty Bar, since their only physical location is in Arizona (please open a second store in California). The May Lindstrom Problem Solver is $90 and contains 8.45 oz. of product and the May Lindstrom The Honey Mud is $80 and contains 3.38 oz. of product. I have dry to normal skin, just to give you some insight into my skincare needs. The problem solver is amazing- I have used up about half of the bottle because I love it so much (but a little does go a long way). I usually only mix 1/4 tsp of the problem solver and 1/4 tsp of water. It starts out as a wet dark green/grey color when you first apply it to the skin and eventually dries to the color and texture in the above left photo. This mask polishes my skin and leaves it feeling so incredibly smooth! It is a bit drying, which is why I also purchased The Honey Mud. Sometimes I mix in a bit of The Honey Mud to my Problem Solver mixture and other times I just apply it alone (see right photo above). Both of these all natural masks are definitely worth the hype. I have seen improvement in the texture and hydration of my skin and the packaging is beautiful, which I'm always a sucker for! [Just to compare, the very popular "Glamglow Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask" rates a 9 on the Think Dirty Meter.]

Jane Iredale Lip Definer
I have always been picky with lip liners, even back when I was a free lance makeup artist. My go-to for shoots and weddings were always the Urban Decay 24/7 lip liners. Being skeptical of trying out an all natural liner, I was reluctant to order one. I finally decided to try out the Jane Iredale Lip Definer in Nude (retails for $15) and am SO glad I did. I am shocked with how similar this lip liner performs to my once-holy-grail pencil from Urban Decay (see third photo above, from L to R: Jane Iredale in "Nude" and Urban Decay in "Liar"). The pigmentation is phenomenal, the application is smooth allowing you to fill in the entire lip if desired, but also precise enough to line the lip perfectly. I will definitely be purchasing more colors in the near future (I also purchased this product from Citrine Natural Beauty Bar).
Ingredients: Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Silica, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Mango Seed Oil, Candelilla Wax, Shea Butter, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Carnauba Wax, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate.
Brows are one of the most important features on the face- I never leave home without doing my brows. Luckily, I found a couple of great green beauty dupes on my first attempt. Currently, I am using and loving the Eco Brow pomade in the color "Sharon" (retails for $26) topped with the Jane Iredale Gel in the color "Blonde" (retails for $16.50). I find that both products are easy to work with and do the job well! Both items are just as good as previous toxic products I used, if not better.
Conveniently enough, Citrine is offering a 15% discount this Friday on orders over $100, using the promo code "GIRLS16" so definitely take advantage. Unfortunately, the code will not work on May Lindstrom products, darn! Both brow products and the lip liner can be purchased there though.
Jane Iredale Purebrow Gel Ingredients: Water, Algae Extract, Beeswax, Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Carnauba Wax, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Oleic Acid, Vanilla Tahitensis Fruit Extract, Sweet Almond Seed Extract.
Eco Brow Ingredients: Neopentyl glycol diheptamate, silica, cetyl acetate, acetylated lanolin oil, ceresin, polyethylene cera microcristallina (microcrystalline wax), nylon-12, cetyl recinolente, dimethicone, natural fragrance (emailed about this and was told the natural fragrance is Lonicera Japonica (honeysuckle flower extract), tocopherol (vitamin e).
I purchased the travel size version of the Agent Nateur Holistick Deodorant from Devine Beauty Emporium for $10. The Devine Beauty Emporium website is currently going through a restock, so I'm not too sure when this product will be available again but you can always purchase directly from the Agent Nateur website. Before committing to this deodrant, I figured I would test out the small version first to see if it worked and if I even liked the scent. When switching over to healthier options, deodorant should be one of the first things to address for women. I personally shave my armpits multiple times per week, each time opening those pores giving the toxins in commercial deodorant brands direct access into my body and cells. One piece of advice when testing out all natural deodorants- give your body about a week to adjust before making a decision on whether it works for you or not. When we make the switch to all natural, our body needs an adjustment period to get used to the different ingredients. Once about a week goes by, you should know if the deodorant will work for you or not! I was pleasantly surprised with this product after I was able to let the week trial go by. I find that I stay fresher smelling for much longer than the previous natural deodorant I was using. I like the clean and simple white packaging and do plan to purchase the regular sized product as soon as I run out. P.S. I like the travel size for when I am traveling, it fits perfectly in my bag and is easy to transport. [Let's compare this item to a common household deodorant such as Dove- Dove's rating is a 9 on the Think Dirty Meter, yikes! It contains hormone disrupting ingredients such as parfum and fragrance.]
Ingredients: Organic coconut oil, sodium bicarbonate, beeswax, sunflower butter, avocado butter, castor oil, raw organic honey, lavender essential oil, hydrogen peroxide, eucalyptus oil.
Rituel De Fille Inner Glow Cream Blush
When I first received this blush in the mail, I was a little unsure if I would be keeping it or not. This is one of my more recent purchases, but has quickly become a favorite. The Rituel De Fille Inner Glow Cream Blush retails for $24 and contains 0.13 oz. of product. All Rituel De Fille products are 99% natural, handcrafted without parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances or dyes. This blush is so unique- the application is easy to blend out and it leaves your cheeks with a beautiful dewy glow! This particular color is perfect for the summertime, when you are wanting to get your glow and bronze on. It leaves subtle specs of gold on the cheeks and is just stunning on. The packaging is also a bonus (again, sucker for packaging). I love the sleek black compact and creative design on the front. Because I am on the more tan side right now, I find that I can apply it as blush, also giving a dewy highlight to my cheekbones as well as layering it with my bronzer to warm it up even more. It's a multifunctional product, which is always a hit in my book. For fair skin tones, I imagine you could still use it as a bronzer if its too dark as a blush, for added dimension to the skin and cheeks.
Spellbound Ingredients: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ricinus communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Lanolin USP, Silica (Silicon Dioxide), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Iron Oxide [CI 77491, CI 77499, CI 77492], Titanium Dioxide [CI 77891], Carnauba Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Carmine [CI 75470], Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Hexylene Glycol.
RMS & Captain Blankenship
In the two pictures above, I used the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer (retails for $38) to highlight and the RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer (retails for $28) to contour. I purchased both RMS products from Cap Beauty, one of my favorite online shops for health and wellness products. RMS Beauty recently came out with an actual contouring shade, which I definitely would like to pick up down the road. For now, I love how the Buriti Bronzer contours! It looks natural but also shows up enough to give you that chiseled look. I don't actually use it as a bronzer though. The Living Luminizer gives the perfect dewy glow-from-within look! It has become a staple in my everyday routine. I apply both products with my finger, warming it up in the pot first. I blend out the contour using the Pro Airbrush from Sephora.
RMS Living Luminizer Ingredients: Organic Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Organic Cera Alba (Beeswax), Organic Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract.
RMS Buriti Bronzer Ingredients: Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Organic Cera Alba (Beeswax), Organic Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Organic Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Organic Mauritia Flexuosa Fruit (Buriti) Oil, Tocopherol(non-GMO), Organic Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Extract.
The Captain Blankenship Sea Salt Shimmer Spray (retails for $28 and contains 4 oz. of product) is going to be making its appearance many times with me over this summer! I love the texture and wave it gives to my hair right out of the shower, and I definitely intend to bring it along on my summer vacations. The scent isn't too strong and the ingredients are fabulous. I am all about that golden shimmer and glow in the summertime.
Sea Salt Spray Ingredients: Water, Sea Salt, Organic Aloe Vera Gel, Organic Sea Kelp Extract, Gold Mica, Organic Essential Oils of Rose Geranium and Palmarosa.
This post was rather long, but hopefully helpful if you are on your own green beauty journey! Let me know what your "go-to" all natural beauty products are, so I can add them to my "want" list.
